Cong annoyed over NC’s role in opposing disqualification of Rahul Gandhi | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 1: Notwithstanding claims of the opposition parties to bring all non-BJP parties on the same platform before elections, opposition unity efforts seem to be shattered as Congress is not happy with the stand taken by the National Conference against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi. There is a feeling among the Congress leaders that instead of taking a tough stand against the government, the NC leadership has half-heartedly opposed the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as a member of the Lok Sabha. Sources said that J&K Congress leadership was expecting that like national level, all non-BJP parties should join hands to oppose the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi. “The Congress was expecting that being a big party NC would play a bigger role in bringing all non-BJP parties on the same platform on this issue”, sources said, adding, “except giving a symbolic statement NC leadership has not taken any initiative in this regard”. Sources said that instead of taking a clear stand on joining hands with Congress to oppose BJP, the NC leadership is trying to play hide and seek role. On the one hand, Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah had joined Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in J&K but on the other hand, NC leaders are also in touch with parties that are working to form non-BJP, non-Congress front at the national level. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee launched a month-long “Jai Bharat Satyagarah”. District level incharges have been appointed for this programme. |
