Babus under scanner for using ‘village link’ to help conman Kiran Patel | Mera Gaon Mera Desh? | | Sanjay Pandita
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 1: Even as the Gujarati conman, Kiren Patel continues to be detained at the Srinagar central jail for posing to be a senior official at the Prime Minister’s Office, two officials in the Jammu and Kashmir administration are accused of helping “him out the most” to get Z+ security. Sources said one of the officers who heads a south Kashmir district was first to get in touch with the conman who sought security for his trips to the valley. Sources said Patel had told the official, who is in civil administration that he wanted security cover for his “confidential visits”. The sources said to make “friends with Patel hoping that that latter would help him get plum posting”, the official had contacted a police officer who hails from his native village. Sources said the official in the civil administration had assured Patel that the police officer, who works in the security wing would “do the needful and quite confidentially as both of them hail from the same village in Jammu region.” “He comes from my village and knows me very well, so he will help out,” the sources said Patel was told. While the conman subsequently got security, it was reliably learnt that numerous officials including the duo requested him for “plum postings.” “Every next officer who met him (conman) would simply beg for plum posting,” said a source. The sources said the matter was being brought to the notice of the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, VK Bhiduria who is probing the case. The sources said Bhuduria was likely to question that duo and some other officials in the connection with the case in the coming days. It’s pertinent to mention that Patel was arrested on March 3 from a posh hotel in Srinagar during his fourth trip to Kashmir. Though before being taken to the Nehru Park Police Station, he had tried to destroy evidence against him by flushing some of the documents in the hotel toilet, the police subsequently fished the visiting cards out of the toilet bowl. |
