Precaution is better than cure
4/10/2023 11:22:32 PM
As the Covid scare has returned the government is gearing up to keep the virus under control.
On Monday mock drills were conducted in the hospitals across the country to take stock of preparedness. Last week Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had urged state health ministers to visit hospitals and oversee the mock drills.
He had also advised the states and union territories to review the preparedness and remain alert as the past experiences reveal that the virus can spread rapidly. The States and UTs have already gone into a huddle and are preparing to meet any eventualities. According to the experts, decreasing levels of immunity in the Indian population are likely to trigger new Covid waves and to tackle this, India needs a strong disease surveillance along with high vaccine coverage. In view of rising cases of COVID-19 across the country, the Union Health Ministry has reportedly approved the inclusion of Serum Institute’s Covovax on the CoWIN portal as a heterologous booster dose for adults. Covovax can be administered to those who have already been vaccinated with Covishield or Covaxin. It may be recalled that last month, the COVID-19 Working Group headed by Dr N K Arora also recommended to the Health Ministry for the inclusion of the vaccine on the portal as a heterologous booster dose for adults who have been vaccinated with two doses of either Covishield or Covaxin. Experts are urging people to go back to basics and start following the Covid protocol. Masks and sanitizers have returned to the markets and people are being advised to take precautions, and stay away from the crowded places. Many experts are of the opinion that the Covid resurgence may not be that severe but the need of the hour is to be well prepared to tackle any situation as no one can predict how the virus will behave. Getting vaccinated again and following the Covid protocol hold the key. The Covid may not disrupt the lives completely but can definitely impact the daily chores of people. The administration needs to be ready and alert as one thing is for sure that the pandemic hasn’t ended and it’s far from being declared as endemic. People need to bear in mind that precaution is better than cure.
