Gadkari announces project to connect Amarnath cave with road | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 10: The long cherished dream of the devotees of Baba Amarnath is going to become a reality as Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday announced a Rs 5300 crore project to connect the holy cave of Shri Amarnath with the road network. Addressing a press conference the Union Minister announced that with the initiative of the Lieutenant Governor of J&K to connect the holy cave with the road network, a comprehensive project has been formulated110 kilometres of track. “The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of 73 kilometres of track from Khanabal to Chandwari worth Rs 1800 crore will be prepared in the month of July this year”, the Minister announced. He further said that the DPR for 35 kilometres of the Chandanwari-Panjtarni-Baltal track worth Rs 3500 crore would be prepared by October 2023. Nitin Gadkari further announced that as per the project, a 10.8 kilometres tunnel would be constructed between Sheshnag and Panjtarni to protect devotees from land sliding and snowfall. Furthermore, the government will construct a five kilometres pucca track from Panjtarni to the holy cave. The track will be five and a half feet wide with a barricade on both sides for the safety and projection of the devotees. The Union Road Transport and Highways further announced that after the completion of this project, devotees will conduct the Yatra within eight to nine hours. Important to mention here that while addressing a function in connection with the Maha Shivratri Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed confidence in February this year that a road project connecting the Amarnath cave shrine will be approved this year as the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation has completed its preliminary project report. Once the road is built, pilgrims from across the country and Jammu and Kashmir will be able to visit and pay obeisance at the cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas, Sinha said. “There was an unfortunate incident during the yatra last year. I myself visited the yatra route. I have tried and I am confident that (Amarnath) route can be constructed the way the road for the Char Daam Yatra has been constructed,” Sinha said. He said the route would start from Pahalgam via Panjtarni and Sangam top to Baltal. “Government of India’s NHIDCL has made its preliminary report. I am assured that this year, the road (project) will be approved,” he said. The LG said the project will be completed within four to five years. The Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways has assigned the construction of the ‘Sheshnag Tunnel’ on the Khanabal-Baltal section of NH-501 to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). |
