6-7 Pak terrorists involved in Poonch attack, manhunt, thermal surveillance intensified

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 21: Even as at least five soldiers laid down their lives in a terror strike in Poonch on April 20, six to seven Pakistani terrorists are believed to have carried out the dastardly act.
Sources said the intelligence agencies have inputs that at least six to seven terrorists, who may have infiltrated into the Indian territory from Pakistan in the recent past, have been active in the Rajauri Poonch area.
The sources said the terrorists linked to the Lashkar carried out the attack from multiple sides to cause maximum damage to the Army vehicle in which the Jawans were travelling.
Sources said the terrorists are believed to have carried out the attack in group of two
and could be hiding in the dense forests in the area and that thermal scanning of the area will “hold key to the flushing out the terrorists.” The Indian Army is leading the operations.
The sources said the hilly terrain where the attack took place has dense forest cover and caves as well -something that is hindering the sanitization of the area to flush out the hiding terrorists.
A source said the intelligence agencies have inputs that the terrorists may have infiltrated into area through some new route for which searches are on to expose the plot.
A senior official in the know of the matter told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that around a dozen hi-tech drones and helicopters have been pushed into service for surveillance.
The official said thermal imaging devices are installed on the drones to find out the attackers. “Visibility is poor in the area due to forest cover and thus we’re banking more on thermal imaging as it will give us precise details,” said one official.
Following the terror attack, the Indian Army is leading the massive operation in league with Jammu and Kashmir and the paramilitary forces.
Sources said the security forces including the Army, Police and Intelligence Agencies are coordinating the operations.
