Quadriplegic Patient recovering well after Spine Surgery in GMC | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 25: A 33 years old female came to the Emergency of GMC, Jammu on 12/4/22 in the morning after fall from roof (approx 14 feet ) with injury to the neck. Patient was first stabilised and then thoroughly investigated ; As the patient was quadriplegic, MRI was done on the same day with the quick efforts of Dr Kulbushan Gupta , HOD Radiology.The patient was diagnosed with Cervical Vertebrae fracture with Neurodeficit. A meeting was held between Principal GMC, Jammu Dr Shashi Sudan and HOD orthopaedics Dr Sanjeev, HOD Anaesthesia Dr Anju Jamwal and Administrator , Ashwani Khajuria regarding giving her a chance by early operative management as it generally takes 4-5 days for a patient to wait for his/ her turn in the routine Operative list. Inspite of the fact that there were very less chances of recovery, but considering her Young age,a decision was made for early intervention and the patient was planned for spine surgery on the very next morning. The operating Orthopaedic team comprised of Dr Bias Dev, Consultant Orthopaedics and his team.The surgery went uneventful. After surgery, She has been showing good signs of recovery. Principal Dr Shashi Sudan motivated the the team from the start to give the young girl a chance and is monitoring the condition of the patient on daily basis. She lauded the team efforts of Dept of Orthopaedics , Anaesthesiology and Radiology to make such surgeries possible as a routine in GMC, Jammu . She further said that this is an example to show how a co-ordinated team work for the best possible care of the Patient & with Positive Teamwork positive outcomes are bound to come. |
