Kashmir official yet to question conman Kiren Patel | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 3: Even as all eyes are on the probe by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir VK Bhiduria into conman Kiren Patel case to fix responsibility for alleged negligence on the part of officials in the administration, the official is allegedly yet to question the accused. Official sources told the Early Times that the Divisional Commissioner was yet to question the accused even as some of the officials who were under the scanner have been questioned in connection with the case. The sources said the civil administration has yet not made any requisition to the Jammu and Kashmir Police for questioning of Patel, who, as per the cops, is jailed in Srinagar. A senior official told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that questioning of Patel by Divisional Commissioner would be done as per a “special protocol” but that till now there were no inputs regarding the same. While the report was to be submitted within a week, till now there has been confirmation about the development from the concerned. Officials said questioning of Patel was vital to fix responsibility in the alleged negligence on the part of the officials. “Without questioning him(conman) the inquiry will be professionally incomplete,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. On March 29, the Additional Chief Secretary Home Department, Raj Kumar Goyal ordered the probe into conman's visit to Kashmir, and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir was appointed as inquiry officer to look into the matter. As per the order, Bhiduria was entrusted to identify the "lapses" on the part of the officials concerned and submit a detailed report to the government. The inquiry report, as per the government order, was to be submitted within a week's time. However, even as over a month as passed since, the administration is tight-lipped. On May 2, the J&K Police filed chargesheet into the FIR No 19 of 2023 against Patel at Police Station Nishat on March 3. Patel is accused of duping the government by enjoying “VIP security and other incentives from” Jammu and Kashmir government during his multiple visits to the valley. Despite repeated attempts the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir couldn’t be contacted for comments. |
