Ahead of Khir Bhawani Mela, devotees complain of poor amenities seek Amit Shah’s intervention | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 4: Even as the revered Mela Khirbhawani is scheduled to be held later this month, the devotees have sought intervention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to improve the civic facilities at the temple. Prominent Kashmiri Pandit and celebrity, Sanjay Raina during his visit to the temple, posted a video showing that devotees have to wash their hands over a drain where the tap has been installed. Accusing the Dharamarth Trust of failing to look after the temple, he said a management board comprising of Kashmiri Pandits should be raised or that administration should look after the facilities. He sought the personal intervention of the Union Home Minister. “This is how devotees wash their hands at #MataKheerBhawani, not to miss that even the dustbins have just been placed by us. @Dharmarth_Trust is a shame. @AmitShah Ji, pl create a KP Mgmt board or handover to @smvdsbkatra @OfficeOfLGJandK @DvCom_Secretary @dcganderbal,” Raina said on his social media handle. The development has taken place a day after the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar and Additional Director General of Police Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh reviewed the arrangements for upcoming Mata Kheer Bhawani Yatra at a meeting attended by functionaries of different departments on May 2. A threadbare discussion was held regarding the arrangements for Yatra. The major issues discussed in the meeting were transportation facilities for devotees, security arrangements and others. The Committee members listed different requirements for smooth conduct of Yatra from Jammu to Mata Kheer Bhawani temple in Ganderbal district. The Khiwbhawani Yatra will start on May 26 after its flagging off from Nagrota, the Committee members said and called for making available hassle-free transportation services for the pilgrims. Kheer Bhawani or the Ragnya Devi temple is situated at a distance of 25 kilometres north-east of Srinagar, in the village of Tulmul in Gandrbal district. It is dedicated to the goddess Kheer Bhavani and is constructed over a sacred spring. Annually thousands of the Pandits, mainly those who were forced to flee in 1990s, visit the temple to pay obeisance at the revered site. |
