Attached for dereliction of duty, ‘erring’ official gets back same plum post | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 13: Even as some of the top functionaries at the Srinagar Municipal Corporation face complaints of numerous scams including Rs 40 crore complaint at the Anti Corruption Bureau, an SMC official who was previously attached for allegedly allowing multi-crore illegal constructions here, has been given back the same plum post. Sources said the official has been given back the post vide a government order whereby earned leave application of the incumbent official has been accepted, and as his replacement, the official previously facing charges of irregularities has been given back the charge. Sources said the official who had been holding the post had applied for earned leave for some personal assignment and that the same was accepted. But as his replacement, the official who was previously attached has been brought back. Official documents reveal that following numerous complaints in 2021, the accused official was attached. That time while two officials were placed under suspension the said official was attached with the office of the Joint Commissioner. Joint Commissioner Works was asked to allot conduct a detailed inquiry in a time bound manner. That time the Chief Revenue Officer was asked to hold the additional charge in the enforcement wing till further orders. Official sources said the allegedly erring official had been lobbying hard to get the posting. “When you have contacts with the builders, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to get his chair,” said a group of senior officials on the condition of anonymity. They said New Delhi must look into the complaint of gross irregularities at the civic body as in the past even police had filed complaints over illegal constructions in Srinagar. “SMC needs a complete audit. Already a coterie of senior functionaries is facing a complaint at the Anti Corruption Bureau and things won’t come to order unless a high level probe is ordered,” said some officials in the Housing Department on the condition of anonymity. Despite repeated attempts, concerned and the allegedly erring official couldn’t be contacted for comments. But a senior official who spoke on the condition of anonymity said there was no “wrong in giving charge who official previously attached.” “At the moment, he faces no complaints and has been given the charge for a limited period.” |
