Early Times Report DODA, June 1: The Union Joint Secretary of the Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region and Central Nodal Officer for Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) 'Catch the Rain' (CTR), Angshuman Dey, along with Scientist D, Gargee Sharma, and members of Jal Shakti Abhiyan, visited Doda district for a three-day visit. They conducted a comprehensive interactive session with 7500 students from 108 Higher Secondary Schools and High Schools, along with 800 teachers. Before engaging with the students, the Union Joint Secretary assessed various critical aspects of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan during a meeting with SE Jal Shakti and other engineers and officials of the department. The progress made in the district, both financially and physically, was reviewed, and the efforts of the district administration and other stakeholders in effectively implementing the Jal Shakti Abhiyan were acknowledged. During the session, the Union Joint Secretary urged the students to recognize the importance of water conservation, responsible water usage, protection of water sources, and rainwater harvesting. He encouraged them to become water conservation champions and spread awareness among society about this noble cause. District Development Commissioner, Vishesh Mahajan, provided a detailed report on the district administration's efforts in rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge. He highlighted the mandatory rain harvesting mechanisms in place for building constructions within the municipal limits of Doda, Bhaderwah, and Thathri. Additionally, he mentioned the construction of soakage pits near rural households under MGNREGA and the ongoing awareness campaigns in schools to instill water conservation habits among students. |
