Father threatens to commit suicide if case not handed over to CBI
Teenage girl found dead in Katra hotel
6/1/2023 11:04:41 PM
Early Times Report

Katra, June 1: Basant Lal, father of a teenage girl, found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel in Katra on April 9, 2023, has reiterated his demand to handover the investigation to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Basant Lal while talking to Early Times alleged: “My daughter has been murdered but Police are trying to pass it as a suicide. My hand folded appeal to the government is to handover the investigation of my daughter’s case to CBI.”
“If my daughter’s case is not handed over to CBI I will commit a suicide,” he threatened. “I am a poor man no one is listening to me,” he added.
It’s in place to mention here that earlier this month the Jammu & Kashmir High Court had taken up a petition filed against the Katra police regarding the alleged murder case of the teenage girl.
The petitioner, Basant Lal had accused the police of failing to register an FIR and demanded an impartial investigation into the matter.
He had claimed that their daughter was murdered in Katra on April 9, 2023. However, despite their repeated pleas, the police had not taken any action or initiated an investigation into the incident.
To seek justice for his daughter, who was working at the hotel where she was found dead, the petitioner approached the High Court for intervention.
In response to the petition, Justice MA Chowdhary presided over the case and ordered the respondents to explore the possibility of registration of case and file a status report.
Basant Lal father of the victim had told reporters that “Katra Police were trying to hush-up the murder case of his daughter.”
Lal had alleged that he was not even allowed to talk to the colleagues of his daughter after her death. “Neither police sealed the room where she was found dead, nor did it collect any evidence,” he had alleged.
