Early Times Report

Udhampur,June 20: Kaku Ram, who was injured in a blast at Salathia Chowk here last year, had lost his power to hear, after not getting any immediate assistance from the authorities, the victim ended his own life as he was unable to bear the immense pain and suffering caused by his disability.
According to Kaku Ram’s wife the unfortunate incident occurred approximately 22 days after Ram’s hearing was impaired in a blast triggered by the terrorists that rocked the Slathia Chowk vicinity.
Despite being rushed to the District Hospital in Udhampur and subsequently to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu, Ram’s condition deteriorated rapidly. He struggled with both the physical pain caused by the blast injuries and the emotional anguish stemming from the loss of his ability to hear.
Ram’s family, hailing from the Ramnagar village, expressed their anguish at his demise. With tears in their eyes, they shared their
financial struggles, which had escalated since Ram’s hearing impairment. Unable to afford the basic necessities, such as refilling the LPG cylinder that Ram used to take care of, the family found themselves in dire straits.
“We have been left with no means to provide for our family,” lamented his widow. “Ram used to take care of us, but his inability to hear left him devastated. As the burden became unbearable for him, he took this tragic step.”
Ram’s family also revealed that he didn’t receive proper medical treatment. Despite the lapse of over a year and three months since the blast, Ram’s wife has not received any pension to assist her in coping with their immense loss.
Compounding their grief, the family received Rs 1 lakh as compensation, provided by the authorities in March this year, which fell significantly short of their mounting expenses and needs.
Ram is survived by his wife and four children, including two daughters, who are now left to grapple with the devastating aftermath of this tragedy.
Kaku Ram’s wife is hopeful that her plea for assistance and justice will be heard, and she would be provided with the widow pension.
