CBI court frames charges against State Tax Officer in bribery case

Jammu, June 30: Special Judge CBI cases Jammu Bala Joyti framed charges against Ramneek Singh State Tax Officer who was caught by CBI red-handed while accepting a bribe.
According to the CBI case on 27/04/2022 Ramneek Singh (State Taxes Officer, Circle Kathua-I being public servant demanded bribe of Rs. 15,000 from one Keshav Mahajan complainant for refund of excess balance in electronic cash ledger of his firm “KS outlier Media Network Private Ltd” and in pursuance to this demand, the accused on 29/04/2022 demanded and accepted the bribe of Rs 13,000 as payment from complainant Kashav Mahajan, at Lane No. 3, Greater Kailash, Jammu inside the complainant’s car as undue advantage for him by abusing his official position as a public servant.
The CBI case further states: “The bribe was taken for getting cleared three applications filed by the complainant for refund claim of firm M/s K S Outlier Media Network Pvt Ltd and for issuance of new GST number in the name of firm M/S Shaucha Food and Beverages Pvt Ltd as undue advantage for yourself thereby abusing your official position as a public servant as a motive for refund of excess balance in electronic cash ledger of his firm KS outlier Media Network Private Ltd and thereby you have committed an offence punishable under section 7 of the PC Act 1988 within my cognizance.”
Special Judge CBI Bala Joyti after hearing both the sides observed that after perusal of the complaint report of IO including that of TLO it appears that there is sufficient material, prima facie found against the accused person.
According to prosecution the accused person demanded Rs. 15,000/- from the complainant for refund of excess balance in electronic cash ledger of his firm KS outlier Media Network Private Ltd but subsequently it was settled for Rs 13,000.
During verification, it came to fore that three applications filed by the complainant against the accused person are pending with the accused. It was argued that in presence of independent witnesses, accused Ramneek Singh was caught red handed during a trap laid by CBI team, while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs. 13,000/- from the complainant Keshav Mahajan on 29.04.2022.
After keen perusal of the file, prima facie, it appears that there are sufficient grounds to proceed against the accused person that warrant for commission of offence under section 7 P.C.Act 1988.
Accordingly charge is framed against the accused person for commission of aforesaid offence. (JNF)
