Crackdown against corrupt keeps Govt employees on tenterhooks | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 1: During the past three years the work culture in the government offices in Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a sea change as the anti-graft agencies have acted tough against the employees involved in corrupt practices. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “After the scrapping of Article 370, the government has taken stern action against the employees who were involved in corrupt practices.” He said, “The rampant absenteeism among government employees, they regularly skipping work without any valid reason, causing delays in public services and hindering the smooth functioning of government offices were a routine till August 5, 2019 (when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate Article 370.” “During the past three years employees have faced the heat for shrieking work, for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices and their lackadaisical approach towards work.” An observer said, “The government employees not living upto the expectations of common people had led to growing discontent among the public. Employees being held accountable and system being made transparent have helped in resolving the issues of the people within a stipulated time frame.” He said, “The anti-graft agencies like Anti Corruption Bureau, Central Bureau of Investigation and Crime Branch taking cognizance of the complaints and acting swiftly against the accused have instilled confidence among people and they are coming forward with their complaints.” “The anti-graft agencies launching a massive crackdown on errant employees has driven home a point that no one can take his/her job for granted. The underperformers are being watched and the deadwood is being chopped off,” the observer said, adding, “The special investigation teams and anti-corruption units have identified the people involved in corrupt practices and have taken action against them . Several government officials have already been suspended pending investigations, and the government has vowed to prosecute those found guilty,” he added. A top official said, “The government is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and accountability in the public service sector. The actions of a few individuals should not tarnish the reputation of the entire workforce. The government is hesitating to take strict action against those found guilty of corruption or dereliction of duty." |
