Natrang's "Sarkari Daftar Ka Ek Din": Satire on Government Offices
7/9/2023 10:24:05 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 9: Natrang, a renowned theatre group, showcased the play "Sarkari Daftar Ka Ek Din" in its weekly theatre series, Sunday Theatre, at the Studio Theatre in Kachi Chawni, Jammu. Written by Laxmikant Vaishnav and directed by Neeraj Kant, the play offered a realistic portrayal of a government office, cleverly highlighting various vices prevalent in such settings. Sushane Dulloo provided assistance for the play, while Vanshika Pandoh handled the publicity.
The play unfolds in a government office, where employees exhibit their unique working styles. With job security fostering a lack of punctuality, rules are conveniently modified to suit personal preferences. The production effectively brings to light common vices like red-tapeism, nepotism, favoritism, corruption, absenteeism, and sycophancy that often plague such offices. The presence of an untouchable peon, protected by his permanent job and knowledge of others' secrets, allows him to exploit his colleagues. Each employee's weaknesses are exploited to advance personal agendas. The only individual who commands the peon's respect is a relative of a minister, fearlessly performing duties without consequence. Meanwhile, the head of the department, responsible for upholding integrity and punctuality, neglects his duties and indulges in personal pursuits. However, when a vigilant officer conducts a surprise raid and finds the office empty, he orders the suspension of all absent employees. Unfortunately, this promising turn of events is revealed to be a mere dream, leaving the state of affairs in the government office unchanged.
The play featured talented young artists from Natrang, including Mihir Gujral, Chirag Anand, Aadesh Dhar, Abhimanyu Choudhary, Sumit Singh Bandaral, and Sheryaar Salaria. Neeraj Kant skillfully operated the lights, while Sheryaar Salaria composed the music. Mahikshit Singh expertly handled the presentations.
Overall, "Sarkari Daftar Ka Ek Din" offered a satirical commentary on the functioning of government offices, shedding light on the prevalent issues in an entertaining manner.
