Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 13: The Congress Party organized a protest today on Canal Road, Jammu, under the leadership of PCC Secretary Narinder Gupta. The protest was joined by other prominent party leaders including Pawan Sharma, Tamana Heer, Anita Sharma, Darshan Lal, Ashok Kumar, Gharu Ram, Ved Parkash, Sunil Kumar, Deepak Sharma, Gulshan Kumar, Piyush Kumar, Papy Kumar, Deepak Gupta, Abhishek Gupta, and numerous prominent workers from Ward Number 12 Krishna Nagar, Canal Jammu. The protestors expressed their dissatisfaction and concerns regarding the installation of smart meters and the implementation of property tax. They voiced worries about the potential financial burden imposed by these measures, particularly the high bills generated by smart meters. The protest march moved through various streets and main roads in the city area. A significant number of protestors, consisting of both men and women, gathered at Krishna Nagar, raising slogans against the BJP-led LG Administration, holding them accountable for the introduction of smart meters and property tax. Narinder Gupta, addressing the crowd, highlighted that a large portion of households in the area belongs to the weaker sections of society, with meager incomes. The financial impact of smart meters and property tax could prove to be beyond their means. He demanded immediate justice for the underprivileged and called for the State Administration to roll back these measures. Gupta also expressed deep concern about the discontinuation of old age pensions, widow pensions, and handicap pensions. He pointed out that these essential supports have been stopped for over a year, causing significant difficulties for the vulnerable population. People are struggling to get verified to receive their rightful pensions, but no substantial progress has been made. Furthermore, Gupta stated that the Congress Party will vigorously advocate for the people's rights and challenge the anti-poor and anti-people decisions made by the BJP and the UT Administration. He urged the people to unite and support the Congress Party to strengthen the party's stance at both the state and central levels of leadership. |
