Basant Rath may shift to Kashmir
8/13/2023 10:33:49 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 13: Even as the Ministry of Home Affairs has handed over premature retirement to 2000-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Basant Kumar Rath, he is likely to shift to Kashmir.
Sources said Basant has “made up his mind to shift to Kashmir” in the coming days.
He is likely to shift to Kashmir in week to start his “political and social activities from Srinagar.”
He is likely to give up his accommodation in Jammu and ferry his household to Srinagar.
The sources said the former IPS may spend most of the time in Kashmir with youth, starting from the congested old city of Srinagar. However he may keep going to Jammu.
Basant has already given such feelers in his videos.
But the sources said Basant was looking ahead to get police protection for staying back in Kashmir.
In a recent video, he had claimed that he enjoys so much of public goodwill in Kashmir, that he as being the IGP would play cricket with Kashmiri youth.
A day after the Union Home Ministry’s order on his premature retirement from All India Police Service became public, Basant registered himself as a BJP activist online, even as the party’s J&K unit played down the development and stated that the leadership has taken no decision so far on giving him any responsibility.
Sources said Basant may hold coaching programs in Jammu and Kashmir and that it was unlikely that he would shift back to native Orissa, post retirement.
The IGP-rank police officer who earned both appreciation and criticism from the people for his efforts to regulate traffic movement as IGP (Traffic), especially in Jammu and Srinagar cities, Basant had been under suspension for the last more than three years.
Interestingly in a recent social media post he has asked journalists to call him Basant and not by second name Rath.
Despite repeated attempts, Basant couldn’t be contacted for comments.
