Major drug bust in Nagrota: Police intercept 53.2 kg poppy straw | | | Early Times Report
Nagrota, Aug 16: A successful operation led by the Nagrota Police has resulted in the interception of a major drug smuggling operation. During a routine checking at TCP Nagrota, a Police Party from PS Nagrota intercepted an MG Hector vehicle bearing registration number JK21G 1313. The vehicle was driven by Harjeet Singh, a resident of Abtaal Ramgarh Samba, who was traveling from Srinagar to Jammu. Upon thorough inspection of the vehicle, the police discovered a staggering 2 kg of poppy straw concealed within. A case FIR no. 333/2023 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act was registered in this regard, with the investigation entrusted to PSI Mohd Zahid. Further investigation led to the accused revealing that he had loaded the poppy straw onto two trucks bearing registration numbers JK02AG9781 and JK02AF3645, both coming from Srinagar. Acting swiftly, the Investigation Officer established a checkpoint at Ban Toll Plaza, where both trucks were intercepted. The search of the trucks yielded the following results: 1. Truck bearing no. JK02AG9781, driven by Raj Kumar S/O Thoru Ram, was found to contain 23.500 kg of poppy straw. Raj Kumar hails from Meen Sarkar Sarore Adda Bari Brahmana, Samba. 2. Truck bearing no. JK02AF3645, driven by Arjun Lal S/O Ram Dass, was carrying a significant 27.700 kg of poppy straw. Arjun Lal is a resident of Chann Rorian Tehsil Hira Nagar Kathua. In total, a staggering 53.200 kg of poppy straw was recovered from the two intercepted trucks. All the accused were promptly arrested in connection with the case, and the vehicles involved were seized as evidence. The successful operation stands as a testament to the diligent efforts of the Nagrota Police in curbing the menace of drug smuggling and upholding the law. |
