Symposium on NEP-2020 held at GDC Purmandal

JAMMU, Aug 26: GDC Purmandal's Cultural Committee, in collaboration with Rashtra Basha Prachar Samiti, Jammu Tawi, organized a one-day intra-college symposium on the topic "Indianness in New Education Policy [NEP-2020] and the Importance of Indigenous Languages" on August 26, 2023. The event commenced with the traditional Lamp Lighting ceremony. The chief guest for the occasion was Prof. [Dr.] Lalit Magotra [Former Head, Department of Physics and Electronics, University of Jammu, and President of Dogri Sanstha Jammu]. The guest of honor was Prof. [Dr.] Bharat Bhushan Sharma [Former Principal, Higher Education Department], and the special guest was Dr. Sanjay Singh [Department of English, MAM College]. The college's esteemed Principal, Prof. [Dr.] Raj Shree Dhar, welcomed the guests by presenting them with planters. In her address, she provided insights into the New Education Policy [2020] and highlighted the importance of local languages. Prof. [Dr.] Lalit Magotra, in his speech, emphasized the significance of using the mother tongue in the New Education Policy 2020. Prof. [Dr.] Bharat Bhushan Sharma stressed the need for utilizing native languages in the current education policy. A considerable number of students enthusiastically participated in the event, sharing their perspectives on the New Education Policy [2020]. The panel of judges included Prof. Sanjay Singh [Department of English, MAM College], Prof. Mohammad Rafi [Department of Political Science, GDC Purmandal], and Prof. Lakshmi Sohan [Department of English, GDC Purmandal]. Lakshita Sharma and Diya Sharma of B. A Semester 5th secured 1st and 2nd positions, while Supriya Rajput and Neha Devi of Semester 3rd secured 3rd and 4th positions, respectively. Prizes and certificates were distributed to both the winners and participants. Prof. [Dr.] Lalit Magotra, the chief guest, appreciated the participants and teachers and encouraged the college to organize more such programs to enhance the communication skills of young minds. The event's proceedings were conducted by Ayushi Baru and Vikas Sharma of semester 5th. Prof. Shahima Akhter [HOD, Environmental Sciences] presented the formal vote of thanks. The entire program was under the supervision of the college's Principal, Prof. [Dr.] Raj Shree Dhar, and coordinated by Prof. [Dr.] Deepika Mehra [Convener, Cultural Committee] and Prof. Shahima Akhter [Co-convener, Cultural Committee].
