Disagreements within NC puncture alliance attempt in Kargil | Farooq, Omar remain silent; Rahul skips 'opposition unity' in his speech | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 26: The intriguing silence being maintained by National Conference leaders over party failing to stitch an alliance with Congress and Peoples Democratic Party for the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil elections has raised many questions. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “An intriguing silence of National Conference (NC) leaders after the party's failed attempt to form an alliance with the Congress for the LAHDC Kargil elections is an indication that NC leaders are not sailing in the same boat. It seems they don’t want NC to go with I.N.D.I.A, an alliance of the opposition parties formed to put up a united front against the BJP.” He said, “Top NC leaders, including former J&K chief ministers, Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah, remaining silent over their party refusing to form an alliance with Congress shows there are internal disagreements within the NC and these have contributed to the failed alliance attempt.” It’s in place to mention here that differing opinions among the NC leaders about the benefits of aligning with Congress and PDP are known to all. “Senior NC leaders seem to be of the opinion that PDP and Congress won’t help and it’s no point annoying the Centre,” the analyst added. An observer said, “Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah completely ignoring Kargil visit of senior Congress leader and Member Parliament, Rahul Gandhi is a message to the grand old party of the country that the NC leaders cannot go against the tide.” It’s in place to mention here that Rahul Gandhi on Friday kickstarted the campaign for the party for LAHDC Kargil elections by addressing a rally at Kargil. Only Congress leaders and workers attended the rally while NC stayed away. Rahul Gandhi didn’t talk about opposition unity in his speech and spoke about other issues. When the LAHDC Kargil elections were announced, NC and Congress had decided to contest the polls jointly but the leaders and the workers of both the parties refused to join the hands. Both the parties had kept PDP out of the alliance. All the three constituents i.e. NC, Congress and PDP of the newly floated Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) are fighting against each other in Kargil. |
