Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 27: Gaurav Gupta, former General Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jammu, met with Arun Mehta, the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, to present a memorandum of demands highlighting key concerns for the development of the Jammu region.
Gaurav Gupta commended the recent statement by LG Sinha regarding the transformation of Srinagar into a Smart City. However, he stressed the urgent need for similar initiatives in the Jammu region, emphasizing its unique charm and cultural significance.
He praised the LG-led administration for its efforts in taking the Union Territory to new heights and noted the significance of upcoming events like the Legends League Cricket in motivating youth towards sports careers.
Gaurav Gupta outlined several crucial measures that could contribute significantly to the holistic development of Jammu. These included expediting ongoing projects under the Smart City initiative to enhance infrastructure and quality of life. He also emphasized the importance of promoting tourism in the region, highlighting the Suchetgarh Border's retreat ceremony as a potential tourism attraction.
The memorandum also underscored the need to complete ongoing projects like the Tawi Barrage and Artificial Lake, address water resource management and flood control concerns, enhance the appeal of Jambu Zoo, and preserve the historic Mubarak Mandi Complex. Gupta suggested the installation of prominent hoardings at key locations to inform visitors about the region's tourist attractions. He advocated for the establishment of a tourism circuit to provide a comprehensive experience for travelers.
The Chief Secretary, Arun Mehta, assured that the issues raised by Gaurav Gupta were genuine and would be addressed on a priority basis.
This initiative aims to promote the development and tourism potential of the Jammu region, similar to the progress seen in Srinagar, ultimately setting an example for the rest of the country.
