Symposium on POCSO marks Constitution Day at GDC Neeli nallah | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Nov 8: In honor of Constitution Day, Government Degree College (GDC) Neeli Nallah Udhampur organized a symposium focusing on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, shedding light on the critical importance of the constitution in safeguarding the rights of the nation's youth. The event, themed "My Constitution My Pride," was expertly guided by Prof. Hans Raj, Principal of the college. The program commenced with an illuminating keynote address by Principal Prof. Hans Raj. An enthusiastic and engaged audience, predominantly consisting of students, eagerly participated in the event. Prof. Hans Raj emphasized the vital role of such awareness programs in educating students about the constitution's significance and the assurance that it provides, ensuring that those who make decisions on behalf of the public are true representatives of public opinion. The POCSO Act, enacted in 2012, comprehensively addresses the issue of sexual offenses against children. This legislation not only outlines penalties for offenders but also establishes a system to support victims and enhance methods for apprehending perpetrators. The symposium included competitive presentations and discussions, and the top three positions were secured by Avantika Sharma (Semester 5), Rupali Rajput (Semester 5), and Ramneek Sharma (Semester 3), who claimed the first, second, and third prizes, respectively. Prof. Hans Raj extended his hearty congratulations to the participants for their outstanding performance during the symposium. He also acknowledged and praised the dedication and hard work of the college staff in ensuring the event's success. Dr. Akhter Hussain served as the convenor of the program, with the organizing committee comprising Dr. Mansi Sharma, Dr. Swati Dutt, Dr. Radha Rani, Prof. Shaista Yasmeen, and Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Mir. The event witnessed the presence of esteemed guests, including Dr. Mahima Bhagat, Swati Sharma, Pradeep Kumar, and Dr. Muntazir Ahmed Bhat, who further enriched the discussions and celebrated the academic achievements of the students.
