J&K Sport Climber Shivani Charak heads to Indonesia for Olympic Qualifying competition
11/8/2023 11:18:21 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 8: Shivani Charak, a top-ranked sport climber from Jammu and Kashmir, embarked on a journey to Indonesia today to participate in the Olympic Qualifying competition. This Asian Qualifier offers a significant opportunity as it will determine four Olympic quota places in Sport Climbing for the Paris Olympics in 2024. The competition will take place in Indonesia from November 9th to 12th, 2023.
In preparation for this crucial competition and to ensure that she performs to her full potential, Shivani Charak was deputed by the Mountaineering Association of Jammu and Kashmir to the Indian Mountaineering Foundation in New Delhi. Here, she had the opportunity to hone her climbing skills and stamina on international-standard climbing walls, equipping her for the challenges of the Asian Qualifier.
It is noteworthy that the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, the apex body for sport climbing in India, did not sponsor any climber for this event. In light of this, Shivani Charak's sponsorship for the competition was generously provided by M/S Secure Meters Ltd, Udaipur. The Mountaineering Association of Jammu and Kashmir expressed its gratitude to M/S Secure Meters Ltd for their support, as it has allowed Shivani to represent India at the global level and prove her mettle.
Shivani Charak's journey in sport climbing is truly remarkable. She is the first female athlete from Jammu and Kashmir to compete in the Asian Games since the last 75 years. Her achievements stand as a testament to her unwavering dedication, resilience, hard work, and willpower, as she has risen to international prominence despite the challenges of inadequate climbing infrastructure in the Union Territory. Her pursuit of excellence and representation on the global stage is a source of inspiration to aspiring athletes and the region as a whole.
