SC Verdict on Article 370 abrogation sparks disappointment in J&K, Former Minister asserts concerns | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 11: The recent Supreme Court verdict on the abrogation of Article 370 has left the people of Jammu and Kashmir disappointed, as expressed by Former Minister and National Conference Additional General Secretary, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra. He highlighted concerns regarding the special culture, identity, and the right to jobs and lands for the bona fide residents of the regions. In a statement, Sadhotra particularly emphasized the anxieties of the people in Jammu about their lands and jobs, issues that have been passionately raised over the past four years. The apex court’s decision has sent shock waves across the regions, he added. Sadhotra stated that the people of the erstwhile princely state feel that their inclusive culture and identity were taken away following the political developments of August 5, 2019. Despite this, he asserted that such moves by the Centre would only strengthen the resolve of the people to stand united for their just cause. The former minister affirmed that they will continue to peacefully struggle for their rights. Additionally, Sadhotra assured that the National Conference rank and file will steadfastly support the leadership’s resolve for the long struggle for justice for the people of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, echoing the sentiments expressed by party Vice President Mr. Omar Abdullah. He expressed confidence in the eventual restoration of the culture, identity, dignity, and honor that the people once enjoyed. Commenting on the Supreme Court’s observation on holding elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly by September 2024, Sadhotra characterized it as a reflection of the BJP’s stance on democracy. He found it ironical that the country’s apex court had to intervene for the restoration of democratic rights in the world’s largest democracy. |
