J&K: 11 travel agents cheating people on pretext of sending them abroad | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 15: As many as 11 travel agencies or travel agents in Jammu and Kashmir are involved in illegally sending people to different countries. According to information shared by the government, the maximum number of 471 travel agents are working illegally in Andhra Pradesh to send people abroad. Although the Ministry of External Affairs has not revealed the names of these travel agents, it is informed that in Jammu and Kashmir, 11 travel agencies are illegally sending people to foreign countries. The Ministry further informed that as part of the Government’s continuous efforts to raise awareness on safe and legal migration, a commemorative postal stamp ‘Surakshit Jaayen, Prashikshit Jaayen’ was released by Prime Minister during the 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas(PBD) Convention on 9th January 2023 at Indore. Further, the Ministry’s outreach activities have regularly been covered by the media. The Ministry as well as Indian Missions/Posts abroad regularly issue advisories on the risks of illegal migration to make emigrating youth aware of the false job offers. To raise awareness among prospective workers about legal requirements and working and living conditions in destination countries the Ministry organizes Pre-Departure Orientation and Training (PDOT) so as to ensure that Indian migrant workers undertake safe migration and are aware of their rights and have access to GoI welfare schemes. PDOT is a one-day training programme on soft skills imparted by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), State Governments, and other stakeholders. As on 30 November 2023, over 1,35,000 prospective migrant workers have benefited from the program in physical and online formats. As on 30 October 2023, 2925 illegal agents have been notified through the eMigrate portal. |
