Yusmarg sans ATMs, mobile network, internet | | | Early Times Report
Yusmarg, Jan 4: Yusmarg, a famed health resort in central Kashmir is devoid of ATMs, mobile networks, and even basic internet connectivity. This lack of infrastructure, coupled with the recent closure of tourist huts, has sparked outrage among local traders, who on Thursday staged a protest to highlight their plight. “Transactions remain frustratingly cash-based, with no ATMs. Mobile networks become patchy at best, leaving visitors disconnected from the outside world. The absence of the internet, crucial for bookings and communication, further hinders tourism potential,” said a trader. Adding to the woes, the recent closure of several tourist huts has dealt another blow to the local economy. Traders, whose livelihoods depend on tourist influx, are bearing the brunt. Thursday's protest saw them voicing their concerns, urging the authorities to address the infrastructural lacunae and revive the ailing tourism industry. "Yusmarg's beauty is undeniable," said a local vendor, "but without basic facilities, tourists get discouraged. Imagine carrying cash around in such a scenic spot! We need ATMs, proper network coverage, and internet access to compete with other tourist destinations." The traders appealed to the administration to expedite the process of upgrading the infrastructure in the tourist resort so that tourists visit this famous resort even in winter season. |
