6 held for cheating | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 8: Police on Monday busted a gang involved in cheating people at the pretext of providing Government jobs, arranging fake marriages and providing inverters. “Cheaters Gang involved in the honey trap module used to cheat gullible people in Baramulla, Bandipora and Hardware and also in Ganderbal and Srinagar, on the pretext of providing Government jobs and arranging marriages and providing Inverters. They looted lakhs from different sections of society especially from poor people by using different methods,” police said. The gang was busted by Handwara Police. “The cheats used to introduce themselves as doctors, engineers and other Govt employees who want to marry. They also used to introduce themselves as engineers of PDD and asked people to pay an advance of Rs 4500 and they would get the inverter from the department,” police said. “During the investigation it came to fore that one of the accused was also acting as a fake faith healer and used to give printed amulets to innocent people and looted money from them,” it said. FIR NO. 01 /2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kralgund and till now six persons have been arrested. “Investigation in the case is in its initial stage and more arrests are expected,” police said. |
