J&K grapples with erosion of democracy, economic instability under BJP regime: Rattan Lal
1/10/2024 9:55:09 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 10: Over the nine years of BJP's misrule at the Centre and its proxy government in J&K, the people of this historically rich and diverse state have borne the brunt of a governance model that has failed to deliver on its promises and safeguard the interests of the residents. Under the incumbent government, J&K has witnessed a troubling erosion of democratic values, economic instability, and a palpable decline in the overall quality of life.
This was stated by Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President while addressing a meeting of Youth Wing of J&K National Conference from Chenab Valley and Jammu District at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan in Jammu. In the meeting, Ajaz Jan, Provincial President JKNC Youth and former Legislator was also present.
Rattan Lal expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in J&K under the present administration, citing a range of issues that have adversely impacted the lives of the people. From the erosion of democratic values to the economic downturn, he highlighted the multiple challenges faced by the people of J&K.
"The people of Jammu and Kashmir have been enduring the brunt of the BJP's misrule for far too long. The promises made by the BJP during their campaigns have not translated into tangible improvements on the ground. Instead, we have witnessed a systematic erosion of the democratic fabric, economic instability, and an overall decline in the well-being of the people."
Rattan Lal Gupta asked the central government to revisit its policies and engage in meaningful discussions with all stakeholders to find lasting solutions to the complex issues affecting Jammu and Kashmir.
The Provincial President has called upon the youth brigade of the Party to gear up for the upcoming polls in Jammu and Kashmir. Emphasizing the significance of active participation in the democratic process, Gupta urged the party cadre to be prepared and enthusiastic in engaging with the electorate. Stressing the importance of grassroots efforts and community outreach, he expressed confidence that a united and dedicated JKNC's youth brigade would play a pivotal role in shaping the political landscape of J&K during the upcoming elections.
Addressing the gathering of youth party leaders, Ajaz Jan, Provincial President of JKNC, expressed deep concern over the sufferings of the people in the absence of elected representatives. He highlighted that democracy in Jammu and Kashmir had come to a standstill with the completion of the tenures of elected Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members.
Urging the government to take prompt action, Jan called for the immediate conduct of Urban Local Body (ULB) and Panchayat polls. He emphasized the vital role of the youth cadre, urging them to actively engage with the public, listen to their concerns, and address issues affecting the community. He stressed that until the elections are held, it is crucial for the Party's youth leaders to remain connected with the people, ensuring their problems are heard and addressed effectively.
The former MLA demanded that the government should prioritize and expedite the conduct of ULB and Panchayat polls to reinstate the democratic process in the state.
Among those who were present in the meeting include Abid Magrey District Vice President Ramban, Sarshad Natnoo Zonal President Youth Chenab Zone, Adhayan Sharma, Rahil Choudhry, Jai Singh and others.
