In J&K, Ladakh I.N.D.I.A bloc partners may part ways | Omar advises opposition parties to expedite seat-sharing talks in other states | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 10: After returning from a holiday in London, National Conference vice-president and former J&K chief minister, Omar Abdullah on Wednesday remained non-committal on his party entering into the seat sharing agreement with I.N.D.I.A bloc constituents in the UTs of J&K and Ladakh. Talking to reporters in Srinagar, Omar advised I.N.D.I.A bloc partners to speed up their seat-sharing talks for the Lok Sabha elections in states such as Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Punjab where their prospects are better. “We are a part of the INDIA alliance. We have a total of six seats including Ladakh and I do not think it will take us more than 15 minutes to take a decision on that. I want that wherever we have hopes of winning seats like in UP, WB, Maharashtra, Bihar, Punjab, Delhi, TN, and Kerala, we should speed up the process of seat-sharing discussions,” he said. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “It appears that Omar is in no mood to strike a deal with Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress—constituents of I.N.D.I.A bloc. Omar’s message Omar seems to be in no hurry to enter into any pre-poll alliance Baig neither quit the PDP nor joined the Peoples’ Conference. If Farooq Sahib decided not to contest LS polls then only the party will take any decision. Who goes uninvited? I know I won’t be invited. seems clear that seats should be shared in such states where entering into an alliance could help the opposition win the seats.” He said, “Omar seems to be in no hurry to enter into any pre-poll alliance.” It may be recalled that before going to London, Omar had addressed a series of political rallies in Jammu and Kashmir regions. He had dropped enough hints that NC would contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections alone. Reacting to Omar’s statements, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti had stated that “no one can stop NC or PDP from contesting on their own.” Mehbooba had even met Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi to send a message to NC and J&K Congress leaders that PDP cannot be brushed off. Pertinently, Congress party organized a rally in South Kashmir’s district and appointed coordinators for five Lok Sabha seats. “The Congress is eyeing Anantnag-Rajouri seat and 2 other constituencies in Jammu region, while NC wants to field its candidates from all the three seats in Kashmir. PDP seems indecisive. However, it appears that in J&K and Ladakh alliance partners of the I.N.D.I.A bloc may part ways,” the analyst added. |
