Omar downplays Baig’s rejoining | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 10: Three days after former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig rejoined the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) former Chief Minister and vice-president of the National Conference Omar Abdullah sought to downplay this political development. Replying to a question regarding Ghar Wapsi of Baig, Omar Abdullah said that he (Baig) has neither quit the PDP nor joined the Peoples’ Conference. “If Baig has not resigned from the PDP so there is no question of his rejoining the same party”, Omar equipped and pointed out no other leader has joined and resigned from any political party. Replying to query about whether he will contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, he said, “In case Farooq Sahib decided not to contest Parliamentary elections only then the party will take any decision.” On the question of assembly elections in J&K, Omar said alleged that though India is being called the mother of democracy, the same is being murdered in Jammu and Kashmir. He was responding to the State Election Commission's statement that final Panchayat Electoral Rolls will be made public on Feb 26, 2024. "India is being called the mother of democracy but it is unfortunate that the same is being murdered in J&K," Omar said. He said that the government should have been finalized all required formalities for polls before five months, and questioned why they have put the process on hold and now hiding behind it with further delay. |
