Amitabh Bachan murder case: Court acquits his wife, brother-in-law
1/18/2024 10:31:10 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 18: In a significant development, Principal Sessions Judge Rajouri RN Wattal has acquitted Anu Verma, wife of the late Amitabh Bachan, and her brother Ajay Kumar in the murder case of Amitabh Bachan. The verdict comes after a thorough examination of the evidence and arguments presented during the trial.
The case revolved around the mysterious death of Amitabh Bachan, whose body was found hanging in his bus under questionable circumstances on October 14, 2016. The proceedings under section 174 of the CrPC were initiated, leading to the registration of FIR No. 100/2017 for the commission of the offense under section 302 RPC.
The court heard that Amitabh Bachan's marriage with Anu Sharma, daughter of her parents, was marked by discord, with Anu Sharma frequently staying at her parental house due to marital issues. The deceased had reportedly restricted Anu Sharma's visits to her parental house, leading to frequent quarrels.
During the trial, it was revealed that on the night of the incident, a heated argument ensued between Amitabh Bachan, Anu Sharma, and her brother Ajay Kumar. The prosecution alleged a conspiracy between Anu Sharma and Ajay Kumar to eliminate Amitabh Bachan.
However, Principal Sessions Judge Rajouri RN Wattal ruled that the evidence presented by the prosecution was not convincing beyond a reasonable doubt, and the accused were entitled to the benefit of doubt. Consequently, the chargesheet was dismissed, and Anu Verma and Ajay Kumar were acquitted of the charge under section 302 RPC.
Anu Verma, who was on bail, had her bail bonds discharged, while Ajay Kumar, in judicial custody at District Jail, Dhangri, was directed to be released forthwith if not detained in any other case. The acquittal marks the end of legal proceedings against the accused in this particular case.
