Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 23: In a significant stride towards skill development and empowerment, Government Polytechnic Jammu has become the first Polytechnic in the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory to implement the prestigious PM Vishwakarma Scheme (PMV). The initiative kicked off with the commencement of training for 60 trainees, known as Vishwakarmas, in the Tailor (Darzi) Craft, with a focus on enhancing their skills for self-employment. The inauguration of the training program took place under the guidance of the UT Administration and was marked by the presence of Sudershan Kumar, Director Skill Development Department (SDD), and Leena Padha, Mission Director, Skill Mission J&K. The event also witnessed the participation of Er Arun Bangotra, Principal Government Polytechnic Jammu, and other representatives from the Directorate of Skill Development Department and NSDC, J&K. Director SDD, Sudershan Kumar, highlighted the ambitious nature of PMV, an initiative by Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The scheme aims to empower craftsmen and artisans by providing recognition, training, tool kits, certification, marketing support, and soft loans. He commended the efforts of Principal Er Arun Bangotra and his team for making Government Polytechnic Jammu the first Polytechnic College in J&K UT to implement the PM Vishwakarma Scheme. Leena Padha, Mission Director, Skill Mission J&K, emphasized the crucial role of skill development in empowering the youth and contributing to the nation's economic growth. Er Arun Bangotra, Principal Government Polytechnic Jammu, outlined the scheme's objectives, including the recognition of artisans through PM Vishwakarma certificates, basic and advanced training, stipends, free toolkits, and support for credit-based soft loans and marketing. Several trainees expressed their gratitude for the opportunity and pledged to dedicate themselves to acquiring skills that would not only benefit their individual careers but also contribute to the overall development of the Jammu region. The occasion saw the presence of various officials, including HOD Civil Engineering Sh Sukhdeep Singh, HOD Mechanical Engineering Sh Raj Kumar, and representatives from J&K Skill Mission. The initiation of PM Vishwakarma Yojana training at Government Polytechnic Jammu marks a crucial step towards equipping the youth with valuable skills, fostering entrepreneurship, and contributing to the economic growth of the region. |
