Jammu, Jan 23: The Jammu Police have arrested four persons on the charges of extortion and abduction. According to the details available with Early Times a case of abduction and extortion was reported on December 17, 2023. The complainant, Mushtaq Hussain, hailing from Poonch, lodged a complaint at Police Post Sarwal, detailing a harrowing incident involving assault, abduction, and extortion. According to Hussain, he was lured into a trap by a woman known to him. The woman invited him for breakfast. Upon his refusal, a group of 3 to 4 men arrived at the scene, assaulting and forcibly taking him inside a house. The ordeal continued with further threats, demanding a sum of seven lakh rupees for his safety. When he resisted, they increased the demand to twenty lakh rupees. During the course of the incident, the attackers also seized a cheque worth Rs 2,00,000 and Rs 80,000 in cash from Hussain's vehicle. They also confiscated his uniform and detained him inside a room for an hour and a half. Following the victim's complaint, the police promptly registered an FIR (179/2023) under relevant sections of the IPC and Arms Act at PS Bakshinagar and arrested the four accused. |
