J&K Joint Association of Career Counsellors Expresses Concern
4/3/2024 11:06:19 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 3: The J&K Joint Association of Career Counsellors, a newly established initiative dedicated to providing free career counselling to students of Jammu & Kashmir, is deeply troubled by the alarming rise in suicide cases among J&K students enrolled in colleges outside their home state, particularly in Punjab and other northern states.
President Kulveer Jamwal said that the association has been closely monitoring the distressing trend of students from Jammu & Kashmir succumbing to mental health challenges and resorting to extreme measures while pursuing higher education in colleges located outside their familiar surroundings. The isolation, cultural differences, and academic pressures faced by these students often exacerbate their vulnerability, leading to tragic outcomes.
Moreover, the association highlights the pervasive issue of fraudulent schemes and deceptive practices employed by certain institutes and counsellors to lure students from J&K with promises of scholarships and financial aid, only to betray their trust upon admission. Such exploitative tactics not only prey on the aspirations of vulnerable students but also contribute to their emotional distress and sense of betrayal.
In light of these distressing developments, the J&K Joint Association of Career Counsellors urgently appeals to the School Education and Higher Education Departments to intensify their oversight and regulation of institutes and counselling services operating within and outside Jammu & Kashmir. It is imperative to hold accountable those responsible for launching fake and fraudulent scholarships, thereby safeguarding the well-being and interests of students.
The association underscores the critical importance of fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for students from J&K pursuing higher education away from home.
Timely intervention through accessible mental health support services, culturally sensitive counselling, and community outreach programs can play a pivotal role in addressing the underlying challenges and mitigating the risk of tragic incidents.
As part of its commitment to promoting the holistic well-being and academic success of students, the J&K Joint Association of Career Counsellors remains steadfast in its mission to provide comprehensive career guidance and support services to the students of Jammu & Kashmir. Through collaborative efforts with stakeholders and educational authorities, the association aims to create a conducive environment where students can thrive academically and emotionally. Others present in the conference are Dinesh kala Vice President, Rumit Gupta General Secretary, Aman Bhatti Secretary, Sanjay Lamba, Sourav Mahajan, Diksha, Virender, Arvind Upadhyay etc.
