Early Times Report

Jammu, May 5: Landed in a piquant situation after not fielding candidates for three Parliamentary seats of Kashmir Valley, the BJP is likely to officially declare support to a candidate of the like-minded party on the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat within a couple of days.
Highly placed sources in the BJP said that discussions were going on with top leaders of the party in this regard to take a final decision.
“Party leadership has yet not taken any decision on Srinagar and Baramulla Parliamentary constituencies but leadership will officially declare support to a candidate on Anantnag-Rajouri seat where party has a stake”, sources said. As reported by this newspaper, the BJP has over one lakh core voters in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.

Party leadership will officially declare support to a candidate on the Anantnag-Rajouri seat where party has a strong voter base.
Not officially declaring support to any candidate would send a wrong message.
declaring support to any candidate would send a wrong message not only among the hard-core voters but also among the voters of the ethnic Pahari tribe”, a senior BJP leader told The Early Times.
Wishing anonymity, the leaders admitted that delay in taking an official stand would help the rival parties to lure Pahari voters by raking up emotive issues.
“Already PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has launched an aggressive campaign to reach out to the Paharis so any delay would prove disastrous for the party in its effort to strengthen its base among the Pahari community”, the BJP leader said.
As reported earlier, BJP leaders are campaigning in different pockets of the prestigious Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha but they are not seeking votes for any particular candidate in this Parliamentary constituency.
