Early Times Report SAMBA, May 11: The Mission Save Lives Road Safety Rally, initiated by the Lt. Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha, on Saturday organised an awareness program and Rally in collaboration with District Administration Samba led by Deputy Commissioner, Abhishek Sharma. An awareness program was organised in the Conference Hall mini secretariat in which around 200 students from different institutions participated. At the outset of program, CEO Kashmir Road Safety Foundation, Nasir Ali Khan emphasized the urgency of implementing comprehensive road safety measures to curb accidents and promote a safer environment for all road users in J&K. He presented data, case studies, and proposed initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of responsible road behavior. A significant focus of the program was dedicated to the "Mission Save Lives J&K Tour 2024." He pointed out that road accidents killed more people than deaths caused by Covid or by drug overdoses. Thereafter, the DC Samba Abhishek Sharma flagged off the rally from Conference hall and appreciated the efforts of Kashmir Road Safety Foundation for creating awareness, educating communities, and also assisting in Implementation of road safety measures. He emphasized that w.e.f 1st January 2024, 71 accidents were reported in district Samba in which 13 persons died and 104 persons suffered from major and minor injuries. He advised the students to drive the vehicle at safe speed, wear a helmet of ISI standard, wear seat belts, avoid using mobile phones and unwanted honking on roads, ensure that the vehicle is properly serviced and don't drive under the influence of drugs. Furthermore, he underscored that everyone should follow these important safety measures in order to stay safe and secure. Also, it is very important for children to learn these safety measures at an early age so that they can avoid unfortunate incidents in the future. Among others ACR, Dr Kusum Chib, CEO Kewal Krishan, Ex En PWD, DySP traffic, DIO, Tehsildar, MVD Inspectors and other officers attended the program.
