Labour Commissioner ensures paid holidays for voters in Lok Sabha elections | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 11: In a bid to uphold the democratic rights of employees, the Labour Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir, Charandeep Singh, spearheaded a crucial meeting with Labour Department officials to ensure the implementation of Section 135(B) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. This section mandates the provision of paid holidays to employees on polling days during elections. With the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 looming, the Labour Commissioner emphasized the significance of granting paid holidays to enable employees to exercise their fundamental right to vote. Under the directives of the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, specific dates were identified for paid holidays across various parliamentary constituencies. Key Points Highlighted in the Meeting: Paid holidays shall be observed on the polling days in different parliamentary constituencies, as follows: Srinagar: May 13 (Monday) Baramulla: May 20 (Monday) Anantnag-Rajouri: May 25 (Saturday) Every eligible person, including employees, workers, and laborers, who are entitled to vote in their respective constituencies, shall benefit from the paid holiday provision. Employees registered as electors but working outside their constituency boundaries shall also enjoy the paid holiday privilege to cast their votes without facing any wage deductions. Labour Department officials are tasked with disseminating guidelines to establishment owners and ensuring compliance with the paid holiday mandate. Establishment owners are encouraged to prominently display information about the paid holidays on notice boards for the awareness of their employees. |
