People voted in large numbers in Srinagar Lok Sabha seat : Waheed Parra | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 13: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Srinagar Lok Sabha Candidate Waheed Parra on Monday said that people came out in large numbers to participate in the election after 1987. "It is a welcome step that the people are coming out to vote", Parra told media after casting his vote at a polling booth in south Kashmir's Pulwama district. He said these had been the boycott villages since 1987 in Pulwama district and for the first time people were coming out to exercise their franchise". "People want to make it a people's election in Kashmir and send out a message that the people of Kashmir have faith in Indian democracy", Parra said. The Lok Sabha candidate said if he won, he will try to heal the sufferings of the people of Kashmir and break their silence they are facing. He said the people should come out and vote. He alleged that "since last evening some people from the administration are trying to divert and derail the process of election as was done in 1987 by chasing our workers, intimidated, harassed and kidnapped". Parra also alleged that "the voting process is being delayed at the polling stations of Pulwama and even claimed that the polling staff admitted that they have directions from the higher ups to delay the process for certain reasons". "This is the murder of the democracy which is happening and should not have happened", he alleged and said "I don't know which party they are supporting. It is wrong and it is against the interest of India". Replying to a question, Parra said that "our voice is our manifesto. Today we are silent and what big thing through elections we speak of about the Article 370". He said "when a Kashmiri is being harassed for exercising his right to vote one can understand on what level the democracy is there".
