Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 19: Although the newly appointed president of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Tariq Hameed Karra sought to downplay his absence, former JKPCC chief Vikar Rasool Wani skipped the function organized to felicitate newly appointed JKPCC chief.
“Vikar Rasool Wani is busy in his constituency in Banihal because some programmes were already finalized so he could not attend today’s programme”, Karra said when asked about the absence of Vikar in today’s function at Srinagar.
Notably, senior Congress leaders namely working presidents Raman Bhalla and Tara Chand came all the way from Jammu to attend Karra’s facilitation function but Vikar Rasool Wani was conspicuously absent from the first public reception of Karra.
Seeking to downplay the whole episode, Karra said that Vikar Rasool Wani is not upset after being removed from the post of the JKPCC chief.
“Vikar Rasool Wani is rather elevated as he is nominated to the high-power Congress Working Committee of the party. It is a matter of pride of the workers of J&K that two leaders from this part of the country are members of CWS”, he said.
Important to mention here that after being removed from the post of JKPCC chief on August 16, Vikar Rasool Wani was nominated as a member of the CWC.
On August 16 Vikar Rasool Wani was removed from the post of JKPCC chief and former Finance Minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir Tariq Hameed Karra was appointed as the new JKPCC chief.
According to an order issued by K C Venugopal, general secretary organization, “Congress President has appointed the President and Working Presidents of the Jammu & Kashmir PCC as follows, with immediate effect Tariq Hameed Karra as PCC president and Tara Chand and Raman Bhalla as working presidents.
“Congress President has also appointed Vikar Rasool Wani as Special Invitee, Congress Working Committee, with immediate effect”, the order reads, adding, “Tariq Hameed Karra has been relieved from his current position as a permanent invitee, Congress Working Committee”,
The party appreciates the contributions of the outgoing PCC President, Vikar Rasool Wani.
Vikar Rasool was appointed PCC president in August 2022, succeeding former minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir. A former legislator from Banihal, Wani chose to lead the PCC over joining Ghulam Nabi Azad’s party.
