Jammu, Oct 27: Jammu and Kashmir getting its statehood back could take time as the Centre is keen on ensuring that all the good work done during the past 10-years remains intact. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “Restoration of statehood to J&K is not a political issue but a policy matter. J&K has suffered immensely due to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism during the past 35 years.” He said, “There is no doubt about the fact that statehood is an important issue but it cannot be restored in a hurry.” Pertinently, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi last week and submitted the resolution passed by his cabinet for restoration of statehood to them. The cabinet had empowered Omar to engage with the Prime Minister and the Central Government to advocate for the reinstatement of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. J&K’s BJP chief Ravinder Raina while responding to a question on restoration of statehood to the UT, said, “ “Peace, harmony and prosperity have been restored in Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and through the hard work of J&K citizens, the army, police and the paramilitary forces. Now that a newly-elected government has been sworn in following the Assembly elections, I feel the sensitive issues should be discussed and addressed through mutual cooperation without playing politics,” Raina said. He advised Omar Abdullah led government to coordinate with the Centre for the welfare of its people and avoid all “sensitive issues, provocative actions or statements.” |
