Kathua, Nov 9: The Department of Botany and Zoology, in collaboration with the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) of Government Degree College for Women (GDCW), Kathua, organized an enriching educational visit to the University of Jammu. The visit, aimed at enhancing the learning experience for BSc Semester 5th (NEP) students, included a tour of the University’s Botanical Garden, Zoological Park, and Molecular Biology Lab. Under the guidance of the college Principal, Dr. Savi Behl, the trip offered students a hands-on learning experience, providing them the opportunity to explore diverse plant and animal species in their natural habitat. The Botanical Garden, renowned for its rich biodiversity, introduced students to various plant families, medicinal plants, and rare species. Dr. Susheel Verma, Head of the Botany Department, led the students through the garden, while Mr. Sajan, the Curator, conducted an informative session on plant taxonomy and conservation. The students also visited the Museum of Zoology, where they observed preserved specimens of vertebrates and invertebrates, including skeletons of a whale, leopard, camel, and rare bird species. The experience was both exciting and educational as students engaged in discussions with Dr. Surinder Sharma, Curator of the museum. The tour continued with a visit to the Molecular Biology Lab, where students were introduced to advanced research techniques, including CRISPR gene editing and DNA sequencing. The students interacted with lab staff and witnessed live demonstrations of cutting-edge technologies. Prof. Seema Langer, Head of the Department of Zoology, emphasized the importance of such educational trips in fulfilling academic requirements and enriching students' learning experiences. The event was coordinated by Prof. Yash Paul, Prof. Manjot Singh, Dr. Khushboo, and Dr. Richa Bhagat. |
