Jammu, Dec 19: As many as 2,72, 555 end-of-life vehicles are running in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Jairam Gadkari said that as per the Motor Vehicles (Registration and Functions of Vehicle Scrapping Facility) Rules, 2021, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, the End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) means all vehicles which are no longer validly registered or declared unfit through Automated Fitness Centres or their registrations have been cancelled under Chapter IV of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. He further said registrations of these vehicles have also been cancelled due to an order of a Court of Law or are self-declared by the legitimate registered owner as a waste vehicle due to any circumstances or which The End-of-Life Vehicles means all vehicles which are no longer validly registered or declared unfit through Automated Fitness Centres or their registrations have been cancelled under Chapter IV of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Out of 2,72, 555 vehicles, 1,10,793 are transport vehicles without fitness certificates. 1,54,020 vehicles are “non-transport” without valid registration certificates. Furthermore, 7742 vehicles, whose registrations have been cancelled are also running on the roads of Jammu and Kashmir. Action is to be taken by the respective State/UT Government on the vehicles declared as End-of-Life, which may be scrapped. re not tested within 180 days from the date of last test excluding the day of test or from the date of expiry of fitness certificate, whichever is later. In this written reply, it is mentioned that 2,72, 555 such end-of-life vehicles have been running in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Out of these total vehicles, 1,10,793 are transport vehicles without fitness certificates. 1,54,020 vehicles are “non-transport” without valid registration certificates. Furthermore, 7742 vehicles, whose registrations have been cancelled, also running on the roads of Jammu and Kashmir. “Action is to be taken by the respective State/UT Government on the vehicles declared as End-of-Life, which may be scrapped at Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs) set up as per rules notified by the Central Government”, the Minister said. |
