KVK Reasi imparts training on entrepreneurship development

REASI, Jan 3: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) successfully imparted training programme on "Entrepreneurship Development in Mushroom Cultivation" here today at Karua village in Reasi distt. of J&K.The programme was conducted under the dynamic leadership of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.BN Tripathi and guidance of Director Extension (DE), Prof. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. The programme was actively attended by a number of women farmers of the area.The major objective of the programme was to train and encourage the women farmers to take mushroom cultivation as an enterprise through the scientific cultivation of oyster and white button mushroom cultivation. Dr.Banarsi Lal, Chief Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. He highlighted the scope and importance of mushroom cultivation in the hilly district Reasi and spoke in detail on scientific cultivation of oyster and white button mushroom. He said that mushroom cultivation is gaining momentum in the district and more and more farmers are coming forward for its cultivation.He also spoke on the nutritional importance and subsidiary income through this enterprise. He elaborated the scientific production technology of mushroom cultivation and guided participants on the preparation of compost for white button mushroom. He also said that mushroom cultivation can even be done by the small or landless farmers. He emphasised on the round the year mushroom cultivation for more farm returns and narrated the value addition in mushroom crop. He motivated the farmers by giving the success stories of some mushroom growers in the region. He also spoke on the spawn selection and casing in the mushroom cultivation. He guided participants on the disease management in mushroom crop. He said that mushroom cultivation is a landless venture which can be started with the minimum investments. He urged farmers to consider it as an entrepreneurial opportunity to boost their farm income. He also spoke on the post-harvest technologies and marketing strategies for the mushroom growers. He stressed on the formation of Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs) for more benefits to the farm women. During the programme progressive woman farmer, Anu Devi was also present who shared her experiences of mushroom cultivation with other farmers. A field visit of demonstration unit of mushroom was also arranged during the programme. The participants showed keen interest in the technologies demonstrated by the KVK scientist and they were convinced to adopt the demonstrated technologies. Many quarries were raised by the participants which were answered satisfactorily by the scientists during the programme. The programme was concluded by Manohar Lal with the formal vote of thanks.
