Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 3: Attendants of patients admitted in a private hospital in Srinagar on Friday alleged that their kith and kin were left unattended in an operation theatre after anaesthesia was administered to them.
According to the details available with Early Times the patients lined up for a knee surgery today were allegedly sedated and left unattended for hours. The delay occurred because the doctor expected to perform the procedures could not arrive on time due to his flight getting delayed.
“Around 10 patients were admitted for knee surgery. Despite the absence of the doctor, the hospital staff went ahead and administered anaesthesia. However, the doctor, who had to perform the surgeries did not arrive, leaving the patients sedated and unattended,” the attendants said.
“We don’t know who performed the surgeries on these patients. We demand clarity. We paid for a specific doctor to operate on our relatives, but he didn’t arrive,” they added.
A senior doctor from the hospital said that the delay was caused due to the doctor's flight getting delayed. "Due to the unforeseen delay, we had to proceed after administering anaesthesia. This was an unfortunate and unforeseen situation. While waiting longer after administering anaesthesia was not an option, we have other experienced doctors capable of conducting such surgeries," he added.
