GEASSOC discusses engineers' issues with Jal Shakti Minister | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 7: A delegation from the All Jammu and Kashmir Graduate Engineers Association (Civil), led by its President Er. Gopal Sharma, met with the Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Rana, to address pressing concerns faced by engineers in the department. The delegation highlighted the severe staff shortage, particularly at the Superintending Engineer (S.E) and Chief Engineer (C.E) levels, with multiple retirements leaving key positions vacant. It was revealed that by March 31, only two C.Es would remain against the sanctioned strength of 21, while 29 S.E posts and over 247 AEE posts also remain unfilled. The engineers praised the Financial Commissioner (ACS) of JSD for his efforts in mass regularization and promotions but emphasized the urgent need for a one-time relaxation of service qualifications to prevent further administrative crisis. They warned that stalled promotions were affecting major water supply projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). The Minister assured the delegation of his commitment to resolving their concerns, directing his OSD to draft a detailed report on their demands, particularly the relaxation of qualifying service requirements. He also emphasized the need for engineers to work in mission mode to achieve departmental goals. The meeting ended on a positive note, with the Minister vowing to take the matter to the highest level for a swift resolution. |
