Samba district hosts "Kalakriti" Skill Development Workshop | | | Early Times Report SAMBA, Feb 7: The Department of Handicrafts and Handloom organized a significant one-day workshop and exhibition "Kalakriti," at the Bamboo Common Facility Centre (CFC) in Block Sumb, marking another milestone in the implementation of the National Bamboo Mission. Deputy Commissioner Samba, Rajesh Sharma and Director Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu, Suraj Prakash Rukwal, graced the occasion with their presence. The event, spearheaded by Assistant Director Handicrafts Samba, Ms. Ekshu Sharma, Block Development Officer Nud, Ms. Veronica Raj, focused on skill enhancement and advancing the objectives of the National Bamboo Mission. National Bamboo Mission aims to boost the bamboo sector by addressing the complete value chain, from cultivation to marketing, while generating employment opportunities, especially in rural areas. The state-of-the-art Bamboo Common Facility Centre in Sumb, an area renowned for its traditional bamboo craftsmanship, provides artisans with modern machinery and workspace to enhance their craft. This initiative represents a significant step toward preserving and modernizing the region's rich bamboo crafting heritage. During the event, artisans received certificates and bamboo toolkits from the dignitaries. Both the Deputy Commissioner and Director emphasized the importance of skill development and encouraged artisans to work towards establishing a unique identity for Samba's bamboo crafts in the broader market. The well-attended event saw participation from numerous artisans and department employees, reflecting the community's strong interest in preserving and advancing this traditional craft. |
