GDC Thannamandi spearheads landmark awareness program

THANNAMANDI, Mar 1: Demonstrating a profound commitment to combating the rising challenge of drug addiction, Govt. Degree College (GDC) Thannamandi, under the banner of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, and in collaboration with the National Educational Society and the Social Welfare Organization, Rajouri, hosted a comprehensive and impactful drug de-addiction program today. The event, meticulously orchestrated, sought to educate and empower the community by fostering awareness about the perils of drug abuse and the avenues for rehabilitation. The program commenced with an inspiring address by Prof. Farooq Ahmad, Principal of GDC Thannamandi, who spoke on the pivotal role educational institutions play in shaping a drug-free society. He emphasized the need for continuous efforts and collaborative approaches to effectively address the menace of drug addiction.
Dr. Naseem Ahmad, Nodal Officer of the Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan Committee at GDC Thanamandi, elaborated on the multifaceted strategies adopted by the institution to tackle this pressing issue. He highlighted the importance of early intervention and the support systems in place for students and community members struggling with addiction. Several esteemed speakers addressed the gathering, including Prof. Nazakat Hussain, Head of the History Department, who spoke on the historical context of drug addiction and its socio-cultural impact. Mohd Yunis, Project Manager, and Somika Sharma, Trainer/Supervisor at the Drug-De-addiction Centre, shared their expertise on rehabilitation strategies and support systems available for individuals battling addiction.
The formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Abdul Haque, Head of the Urdu Department, who expressed gratitude to all participants and organizers for their efforts in making the event a success. Dr. Nazar Ul Islam, Head of Islamic Studies, conducted the proceedings, ensuring a smooth conduct of the program.
The event was well-attended by college staff, including Prof. Asif, Prof. Rakesh Puri, Dr. Goher Iqbal, Dr. Gulshan Rashid Bhat, Dr. Shiraz Ahmad, Dr. Altaf Hussain, Dr. Junaid Ahmad, Dr. Ather Aziz Raina, Prof. Fatima, Dr. Rumi Dar, Dr. Nagina Koser, Ms. Rizwana Koser, Dr. Atiqul Rehman, Dr. Mudasir Gori, Dr. Mohd Zubair, and Dr. Mohd Shakoor, Dr. Sajid Ali, Dr Arshid, Naima Mughal Staff nurse, Nisar Hussain and Mohd Jameel
