Early Times Report

Jammu, May 25: The border town of Poonch has been turned into a landscape of sorrow following intense Pakistani shelling on the night of May 6–7, 2025. The attack claimed the lives of at least 13 civilians, including four children, and left 59 others injured.
Among the bereaved are Rameez Khan and Urusa Khan, who lost their 12-year-old twins, Aruba and Ayan, and Sanjeev Kumar Bhargava, whose only son, 13-year-old Vihaan, was killed in the barrage. The tragedy has sparked widespread outrage and grief across the nation.
The heavy artillery and mortar shelling, which began in the intervening night of May 6 and 7, targeted residential areas near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch, destroying homes and shattering lives. The indiscriminate attack on unarmed civilians has been condemned as a grave violation of humanity, turning the once-vibrant town into a place of mourning.
Among the victims was 13-year-old Vihaan Bhargava, the only son of Sanjeev Kumar Bhargava. The Bhargava family was fleeing to Jammu for safety when their vehicle was caught in the shelling in the Khanater area.
A mortar shell struck a nearby rock, sending splinters into the car. Vihaan, seated in the back row, was fatally injured. His mother, seat

d to his right, and his aunt and her child, seated to his left, miraculously escaped unharmed. Despite being rushed to the district hospital in Poonch, Vihaan was declared dead on arrival. The loss of their only son has left the Bhargava family in profound grief.
Rameez Khan and Urusa Khan, who had relocated to Poonch just two months ago for a better future, suffered an unimaginable loss.
Their 12-year-old twins, Aruba and Ayan, who had recently celebrated their birthday and begun attending school, were killed within minutes of each other in a mortar attack on May 7. Rameez, severely injured by shrapnel to his liver, is fighting for his life in the ICU at the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu. To shield him from further trauma, his family has not yet informed him of his children’s deaths. Urusa, also injured, is grappling with the devastating loss.
The relentless shelling targeted homes, schools, and places of worship, leaving landmarks like the Poonch bus stand and Christ School damaged. The attack claimed the lives of at least 13–15 civilians, including four minors, and injured 59 others. The Indian Army responded with a fierce counterattack, destroying several Pakistani posts and causing casualties among their soldiers.
