Early Times Report

Jammu, July 24: A drug raid conducted by the District Special Branch (DSB) in the Surrey Chak area of Phallian Mandal turned violent this
evening, resulting in the death of one individual after alleged stone-pelting forced the police to open fire.
Sources told Early Times that the incident occurred at approximately 5:45 PM when the DSB team, acting on a specific intelligence input, chased a motorcycle (No. JK02DL/6229) suspected to be involved in drug trafficking.
“Amid the chase, the team encountered fierce resistance in the form of heavy stone-pelting by unidentified individuals in the area. In the melee, the official vehicle of the DSB team, a Bolero bearing registration number JK02OB/1846, reportedly overturned while trying to evade the attackers,” they added.
Sources said, “Facing an escalating threat, the DSB personnel were compelled to open a few rounds of fire. In the process, one individual sustained bullet injuries and was immediately shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for treatment. However, doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead. The deceased has been identified as Parvez Ahmad alias Bachu, son of Rehmat Ali, resident of Javed Nagar, Nikki Tawi.”
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased individual claimed the youth was killed without his association with any drug-peddling related activity. “He was routinely loading sand from the Tawi River when he was fired upon,” they added.
