‘Operation Cell’
7/24/2025 10:48:23 PM
The Delhi Police have constituted and “Operation Cell”, a dedicated team of cyber experts to monitor terrorism-related activities on social media, dark web and bomb threats.
The newly formed unit will function under the Special Cell, the anti-terror unit of the force.
According to the officials a wanted criminal Akashdeep, associated with the banned terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International was arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police with the assistance of this cell.
The Delhi Police’s move to constitute an “Operation Cell” under its Special Cell is a commendable and timely step. This newly formed cyber team is poised to play a crucial role in curbing terrorism by targeting its most insidious weapon — online connectivity. The scope of “Operation Cell reflects the changing face of terror, where threats are no longer confined to physical geographies but thrive in the digital shadows. The dark web, encrypted messaging platforms, and anonymous forums have become breeding grounds for recruitment, planning, financing, and radicalization.
Without an effective digital surveillance mechanism, combating this invisible enemy becomes nearly impossible.
The Operation Cell brings a sharp focus on cyber intelligence and digital tracking, which are essential tools for pre-emptive action. Traditional policing, no matter how efficient, is inadequate in the face of encrypted communication and sophisticated online networks used by terror outfits. This cyber unit bridges that critical gap. Its role is not just reactive — investigating after a threat is executed — but also preventive, by intercepting plans and communications before they manifest into attacks. What makes the Operation Cell strategically significant is its integration within the Special Cell, Delhi Police’s premier anti-terror unit. This ensures that cyber inputs are not isolated, but immediately translated into field action. The seamless coordination between digital analysts and ground operatives can drastically reduce response time, enhance accuracy, and improve surveillance outcomes.
Moreover, the cell’s continuous monitoring of bomb threats adds another layer of security, especially in a city like Delhi — the national capital and a perennial target for anti-national elements. With festivals, diplomatic gatherings, and high-profile events frequently hosted in the city, the importance of timely alerts and threat neutralization cannot be overstated.
The formation of the Operation Cell is a proactive leap in India’s war against terror. As terrorism morphs with technology, so must our defense mechanisms. By bringing cyber vigilance to the forefront of counter-terror strategy, Delhi Police has not only strengthened city security but set a national example. With vigilant eyes on the digital horizon, the Operation Cell could very well be the firewall that shields millions.
